I grew up in the mountains of Virginia, the youngest of seven children. Negotiation and collaboration was part of survival for us. My civic minded parents encouraged us all to do what we could to make the world a better place than we found it. I took that to heart when after completing an undergraduate degree at Radford University and a Master of Public Administration from NC State, I began a 10-year career in the public sector. I completed a fellowship at NC Department of Commerce then worked as a fiscal analyst for the NC Legislature, where I honed my negotiating skills. I have never forgotten the directive my parents gave me to do my part to make the world a better place. As such, I have volunteered in many capacities for several non-profits.
